Every year our Photo Presentation Contest draws some
brilliant presentations from the students. This year
was no exception. I really wanted to give away several
first prizes, but unfortunately there can be only one
winner. As you may be able to imagine, judging is
not an easy task when the presentations are all at such
a close level. Everybody can be really proud of what they
have done.
Best Prize (Adult):Urara Uda Teacher: Mark
Your presentation was outstanding. I don’t know a
lot about music, I can’t read music and I can’t play
an instrument, but I did know about the erhu as it
is an instrument which my sister-in-law plays.
I find it amazing that people can read standard
music notation, but I had no knowledge of the
Chinese notation at all, so I am very impressed
that you are able to read that also. The inclusion of
your video performance was a nice touch also.
Beginner you say? I’m not so sure. Anyway… as a
new student, to come and deliver such a good
presentation and include your performance as a
part of it shows to me great confidence and that
is really impressive for me. Very well done!
Runner Up (Adult):Tetsuya Nakamura Teacher: Mark
Your delivery about the production of your lamp was
very interesting. The step by step instructions on
how to make it were very clear and the photos were
very helpful to understand the order in which things
were done and how the procedures took place. I have
since been thinking of finding a studio or place where my
wife and I can visit and use our creative talents
under supervision from a professional.
Best Prize (Kids):Ayano Uchiyama Teacher: Mr. Inori
Your school trip to Kyoto sounded like a wonderful time
with your friends. I haven’t been to many places in
Japan, but I have been to Kyoto and I did see the golden
temple Kinkakuji. The only time I have visited Kyoto
was in the Summer of 2005 and it was a great trip with my
brother. You also got me thinking about my school
trips when I was in high school and the good times I had
with friends back then. One last thing, performing a
presentation by reading directly from your notes is not
a good way to present things, but when you were asked
to try again without your notes you did really well. Well done

Thank you to everybody who took part in this event!
Thank you for your cooperation and participation.
There were many great presentations prepared
and presented before me and in saying that it was very
difficult to choose the winners of this year’s photo contest.
We look forward to your participation in our next contest;
flaunt those skills. Don’t forget to do your best.
For the Adult Group:
Best Prize: Yoshimi Hishinuma
Your picture was well taken again this year!
Either you are paying someone to take it or you are
really good at it. Which one is it? Your presentation
was well thought up and presented. It was very
difficult to find you in the picture, but I still found you.
It left me with more information that with what I
started with. I wonder what next year will bring
us for our next competition.
Effort Prize: Mami Yamakawa
As you may know by now, I like travelling
but you always put me to shame. You always bring
in some beautiful and mesmerizing photos. It was
great that you shared those memories with us.
I admire your bravery. As you know I would never
set foot in a cave in Japan. You are stronger than me!
Your presentation was the second longest in the school.
Keep it up; your efforts are starting to show. I look
forward to next year’s contest.
Notable presentations: Hiromi Hirakawa
Yasuyo Takeda
Masaru Shiida
Not everyone was able to make the cut.
There were many good presentations that showed me
the results of all your hard work. Keep it up and you
will find your name on the top.

You may be a new student to our school but
you are working harder than most. For this being
your first presentation, you did extremely well.
It was well thought up and presented. I was shocked at
first, but it quickly changed. Your presentation told me
that you are very interested in English and that your
love for it runs deep. Keep it up and I look forward to
next year’s contest. You may have to compete in the
adult group if you get to good.
Best Effort: Erika Mitsutani
At times you worry me a lot. You know what to
say yet you don’t use the language. But you know I
will always push you to do your best. This year was
your first challenge at the contest. I was worried
at first but when you started to talk about your favorite
singer, I was shocked. Who are you and what did
you do with the real Erika? Please keep it up!
Notable presentations: Rio Asomura (Saturday)
Miyu Nakatsugawa
Kaede Yamamoto
